  7. military; after at least two gunmen ambushed his car; in Quezon
  8. City. Philippine officials blamed the killing on Communist
  9. rebels, who oppose U.S. bases in the country. A highly decorated
  10. Viet Nam veteran, Rowe spent from 1963 to 1968 in a cage as a
  11. prisoner of war. He recounted that ordeal in his 1971 book, Five
  12. Years to Freedom.
